Trade Republic is a European neo-broker that lets you buy stocks, ETFs, bonds, crypto, and private market assets. Sure connects to Trade Republic directly using its authenticated web API — no third-party aggregator is required. See Transaction history and import limits for initial sync defaults, history limits, and options for older transactions.

How it works

Sure authenticates to Trade Republic using the same web login flow as the Trade Republic web app. After you confirm the login on your phone, Sure stores an encrypted session token and uses it for all future syncs. Your PIN or password is never stored. It is used only to start a new login session and is discarded immediately after. The credential is also filtered from request logs so it never appears in server-side log output. Sure discovers up to three accounts from your Trade Republic connection:
  • Portfolio account — holds your securities positions (stocks, ETFs, bonds, private market instruments) and tracks their current value
  • Cash account — holds your Trade Republic cash balance and records deposits, withdrawals, card payments, interest, and dividends
  • Crypto account — holds your crypto positions and their trade history; created automatically once the portfolio holds or has traded crypto

Logging in

Sure supports two login methods:

Phone number and PIN or password

  1. Enter your Trade Republic phone number and your PIN or password
  2. Sure starts a web login session with Trade Republic
  3. Trade Republic sends a push notification or authenticator code to confirm the login
  4. Confirm the login in the Trade Republic app, then click Confirm login in Sure

QR code

  1. Click QR login in the Trade Republic panel
  2. Sure fetches a QR code from Trade Republic
  3. Scan the QR code with your phone camera, then approve the login in the Trade Republic app
  4. Sure detects the approved session automatically
Use the QR login if you prefer not to enter your PIN or password in Sure, or if you do not have the Trade Republic authenticator set up.

Setting up Trade Republic

  1. In Sure, go to Settings > Providers
  2. Find the Trade Republic section and click to expand it
  3. Choose your login method (phone number and PIN or password, or QR code) and complete the login
  4. After a successful login, click Sync to discover your accounts
  5. Once the sync finishes, click Set up accounts to link the discovered accounts to Sure accounts
Sure discovers a Portfolio account and a Cash account for every connection. If your portfolio holds or has traded crypto, a Crypto account is also discovered and shown in the account setup flow. If you already have a manual investment account in Sure, you can link the discovered Trade Republic portfolio account to it instead of creating a new one. A Crypto provider account can be linked to an existing Crypto (exchange) or Investment account.

Multiple connections

Sure supports more than one Trade Republic connection per family. Each connection is shown as a separate card in the Trade Republic panel. To add another connection, click Add another connection at the bottom of the Trade Republic section and complete the login for the second account. Each connection card shows a short identifier to help you tell them apart. For phone number logins, Sure displays the last four digits of the phone number. For QR-code logins with no phone number on file, Sure falls back to the last four characters of the linked brokerage account number once a sync has run. If you complete a login and Sure detects that the Trade Republic account is already linked through another connection in the same family, the new connection is discarded automatically and you will see a notice explaining the duplicate was removed.

Account types

The portfolio account subtype follows the non-crypto assets held. Sure maps Trade Republic’s portfolio categories to account subtypes:

Crypto account linkage

The Crypto provider account links only to a Crypto account in Sure (exchange subtype) or to an Investment account. Portfolio and Cash provider accounts continue to link to Investment and Depository accounts respectively. Account setup shows only compatible account types for each provider account. Until you link the Crypto provider account to a Sure account, crypto positions and trades remain on the Portfolio account. Once you link it, crypto positions and trades move to the Crypto account and the Portfolio leaves them and their value out of its total.

What gets imported

Portfolio account

  • Current holdings with quantities and market values (crypto excluded once the Crypto account is linked)
  • Trade history (buys and sells for stocks, ETFs, and bonds), including fees recorded separately on each trade
  • Bond purchases: the nominal amount is imported as quantity and the quotation (price as a percent of par) is converted to a per-unit price — for example, a quotation of 92.67% becomes a price of 0.9267 per nominal unit
  • Savings plan executions, including historical savings-plan invoices
  • Saveback reinvestments (recorded as portfolio trades; no cash leg, because Trade Republic pays for the shares)
  • Stock Bonus shares (ACQUISITION_TRADE_PERK events, recorded as portfolio trades; no cash leg, because Trade Republic pays for the shares)
  • Private Markets bonus units — the 1 % bonus units Trade Republic adds to a Private Markets order are recorded as a portfolio trade with no cash leg; no cash outflow is created for them
  • Round Up investments (recorded as portfolio trades)

Cash account

  • Cash balance
  • Deposits and withdrawals, including Google Pay deposits and credit card top-ups (recorded as standard transactions; automatic transfer matching turns a deposit into a transfer when the counterpart bank account is also in Sure)
  • Card payments and ATM withdrawals, including card-funded transfers out such as topping up PayPal, Revolut, or Paysafecard (CARD_AFT events, labeled Card payment)
  • Card refunds, including card credits such as merchant refunds pushed directly to the card (CARD_OCT events, labeled Card refund)
  • Italian stamp duty charges (imposta di bollo); cancelled charges book nothing new, and earlier entries are removed unless protected from sync or part of a split
  • Interest payouts (labeled Interest)
  • Dividends, including per-share amount and withholding tax where available (labeled Dividend)
  • Fees (labeled Fee)
  • Tax refunds
  • Trade settlements: each buy and sell settlement records a cash outflow or inflow linked to the portfolio by a confirmed transfer when both accounts are linked. When available, the settled amount uses the detail total from Trade Republic (fees and taxes included). Until that detail is fetched, Sure can use the timeline amount
  • Round Up outflows (labeled Buy, linked to the portfolio by a confirmed transfer when both accounts are linked)

Crypto account

  • Crypto positions taken from the portfolio snapshot, with quantities and market values
  • Crypto trade history (buys, sells, round-up settlements) moved over from the portfolio once the Crypto account is linked
  • Trades the user has not edited are moved automatically; edited trades stay on the Portfolio
When all three accounts are linked:
  • Non-crypto buy and sell trades are recorded on the Portfolio account. Each trade also produces a corresponding entry on the Cash account: buys appear as uncategorized investment contributions and sale proceeds appear as funds movements.
  • Crypto buys, sells, and round-up settlements are recorded on the Crypto account. Each trade produces a corresponding Cash entry linked to it as a confirmed transfer.
  • Cash movements (deposits, withdrawals, card payments, interest, dividends) are recorded on the Cash account only.
  • Saveback events and Stock Bonus events are recorded as Portfolio trades only, with no cash leg on either account.
  • Round Up events produce a trade on whichever account holds the position (Portfolio or Crypto) and a corresponding cash outflow linked by a confirmed transfer.

Trade names

Trades are labelled using the format {ticker} · {quantity}x {name}. When the security name matches the ticker, the name is omitted: {ticker} · {quantity}x. The Buy or Sell direction appears as an activity label rather than in the entry name.

Securities and market data

Sure resolves holdings and historical trades to exchange tickers when Trade Republic provides a venue symbol. Exchange-listed securities use real ticker symbols for market data lookups. When no usable exchange symbol is available for a position, the security is marked offline and price importers skip it automatically. Sure retries unresolved ISINs at most once per day for up to 30 days.

Bonds

Trade Republic lists every bond on its exchange under the placeholder symbol “BOND”. Sure bypasses that listing and resolves each bond directly to an offline ISIN security instead. Each bond gets its own security, so two bonds in the same portfolio no longer share a single holding row. Bonds are priced using Trade Republic’s own snapshot prices rather than a market data feed. Bond securities are named using the format {issuer} {coupon} {maturity} — for example, “Italy 3.1% Mar 2040”. A fixed coupon is included when available; floating or unavailable coupons are omitted. If the issuer or maturity is unavailable, the name falls back to the instrument name from Trade Republic. Holdings that were previously stored on the shared BOND listing are moved to each bond’s own ISIN security automatically on the next sync.

Crypto holdings

Trade Republic identifies crypto positions using pseudo-ISINs that encode the coin symbol — for example, XF000BTC0017 for Bitcoin and XF000ETH0019 for Ether. When the crypto price provider is enabled in Sure, holdings and trades for these ISINs are resolved to the shared CRYPTO:<SYMBOL> security used by on-chain wallets and exchange integrations. Any existing rows stored under the Trade Republic ISIN are migrated over automatically. When the crypto price provider is not enabled, the offline ISIN security is kept and positions remain valued at Trade Republic’s own snapshot prices. Crypto positions and trades import on the Crypto account once it is linked. Before linking, they remain on the Portfolio account. Sure creates the Crypto provider account automatically the first time a sync detects crypto holdings or trades in your Trade Republic portfolio. Bond positions are quoted by Trade Republic as a percentage of par (for example, 84.04 means 84.04% of face value). Sure converts this to a per-unit price before computing market value, so the holding value matches the true market price of your nominal bond position. Private market positions are valued using quotes from Trade Republic’s private markets feed when available. If no live quote exists, Sure uses the average cost basis as the holding value. Other positions without a live price show a price-unavailable indicator rather than a flat return.

Syncing

Sure syncs Trade Republic accounts on the same schedule as other connected providers. You can also trigger a manual sync from the Trade Republic panel in Settings > Providers. Session tokens are refreshed automatically during each sync when Trade Republic returns a renewed token.

Session expiry

Trade Republic login sessions expire after 24 hours, but earlier server revocation may require you to log in sooner. When a session ends, Sure stops syncing that connection until you log in again.
  • The Accounts page and the Trade Republic settings card both show when the current login expires.
  • The providers list shows a warning two hours before the session is due to end.
  • Sure schedules a sync approximately one hour before the session ends so the day’s activity is still imported.
  • Once the session has expired, the status changes to Re-authentication required. The Accounts page and the Settings card both offer the QR login so you can log in again without going to Settings > Bank sync.
  • The Sync button is disabled while a session has ended. Triggering a sync from the panel or the API requires a valid session.

Categories and labels on cash deposits

Categories and activity labels assigned to cash deposits by a Rule are preserved across syncs. Rule-assigned categories and labels on Trade Republic cash deposits are not removed when you sync.

Troubleshooting

Re-authentication required

Your Trade Republic session expired. Log in again using your phone number and PIN or password, or the QR code method. You can start the QR login directly from the Accounts page or from Settings > Bank sync > Trade Republic.

Accounts need setup

A sync discovered your Trade Republic accounts, but they have not been linked to Sure accounts yet. Click Set up accounts from the Trade Republic panel and complete the account setup.

No accounts discovered yet

The login succeeded, but no accounts have been found yet. Click Sync from the Trade Republic panel and wait for the sync to finish, then try Set up accounts again.

Trade history not showing

If buy or sell trades are missing from your portfolio account, run a manual sync from Settings > Providers > Trade Republic. Previous syncs may have skipped order executions due to a locale mismatch — a sync after updating Sure will import them correctly. If trades are still missing after syncing, check the activity feed on your portfolio account. Trades are recorded in the format {ticker} · {quantity}x {name} with Buy or Sell as the activity label.

Some trades listed as not imported yet

During a sync, Sure may encounter order executions whose detail Trade Republic has not fully delivered yet — the response is missing an ISIN or a quantity. Sure skips those executions and records a warning in the sync diagnostics with the total affected count and details for up to 50 executions: event ID, type, date, and what is missing. The Trade Republic panel’s data quality section shows a pending-trade-details count. The detailed warning is recorded in the debug log. Later syncs retry incomplete details within the sync’s fetch budget; a trade can import once the required detail arrives. If it remains missing across syncs, check the Trade Republic app and the debug log to investigate.

Trade prices were corrected after a sync

Sure prefers an explicit share price, bond quotation, or the trade detail’s quantity × price row. When those are unavailable, it can still derive a price from the total after accounting for fees and taxes. Deriving a price from a cent-rounded total can introduce small differences. Stored trades without a confirmed detail price are eligible for automatic detail backfill during later syncs. When a better price arrives, unprotected trades can be corrected and their calculated cost basis refreshed. Fetches share a bounded sync budget: a never-attempted trade is eligible even if older than 30 days; unsuccessful newer trades retry at most daily until they reach 30 days old. User-protected fields are preserved.

Holdings show the wrong value

If a position shows no price or an incorrect value:
  • Run a manual sync to refresh market prices
  • Check the Data quality section on the Trade Republic panel for positions flagged as unpriced
  • Private market positions without a live quote are valued at their average cost basis
  • Other positions without a live price display a price-unavailable indicator
Bond values were previously inflated 100x. Trade Republic quotes bond prices as percentages of par while position sizes represent nominal amounts. Older syncs could multiply the two directly. Current syncs divide bond quotes by 100. An upgrade migration rescales eligible historical provider snapshots and cached positions. Repair reprocesses stored provider data but does not rerun that migration. If older values remain inflated after upgrading and syncing, report the affected holdings for investigation.

Deposits showing as transfers or investment contributions

Earlier syncs classified Trade Republic cash-account deposits as funds movements (which appeared as transfers) or investment contributions. A sync resets those entries to standard transactions automatically, unless you edited them or they are part of a matched transfer. If any deposits still appear incorrectly after syncing, run a manual sync from Settings > Providers > Trade Republic.

Balance does not match the Trade Republic app

Sure uses the booked cash balance from Trade Republic, which matches the balance shown in the Trade Republic app. Funds reserved for open orders (such as pending limit orders) are not subtracted from this balance — those orders have not settled, so no matching transaction exists yet. For sales where Trade Republic withholds tax, the settled cash amount can differ from the headline order value shown in the timeline list. Once the detail is available, Sure prefers its total (the figure Trade Republic posts against your cash balance, taxes included) over the list amount, so the cash account should stay consistent with the Trade Republic app. If the balance still does not match, a sync may have captured a partial response. Run a manual sync to refresh. If the discrepancy persists, click Repair in the data quality section of the Trade Republic panel to re-process imported data.

QR code login appears to expire right after scanning

If Sure shows a login-expired or already-used error immediately after you scan the QR code in the Trade Republic app, start a new QR login from Settings > Providers > Trade Republic. The previous code was single-use and cannot be retried — the new code will work correctly.

Phone number and PIN or password login confirmation times out

The push login confirmation window is open for approximately two minutes. Sure polls Trade Republic at one-second intervals and backs off automatically if Trade Republic is rate-limiting or temporarily unavailable. If the window closes before you confirm:
  1. Click Cancel or wait for the panel to reset
  2. Start a new login from Settings > Providers > Trade Republic and enter your PIN or password again
If the panel shows a rate-limit or outage alert, wait a moment and then click Check login status to retry manually. Sure will resume automatic polling on the next login attempt.

Limitations

  • European accounts only: Trade Republic operates in Europe. Accounts in unsupported regions cannot be connected.
  • Session expiry: Trade Republic login sessions expire after 24 hours and may require login sooner if the server revokes the session. A new login is required once the session ends.
  • Unpriced positions: Some securities (particularly private market instruments) may not have a current price available from Trade Republic.
  • No options or derivatives: Derivative instruments are not imported.
