# Trading 212

> Connect a Trading 212 investment account via API key

Trading 212 is a European investment platform for stocks, ETFs, and fractional shares. Sure connects to Trading 212 using a read-only API key and imports your portfolio positions, order history, dividends, and cash transactions.

## What gets imported

Sure imports one investment account per Trading 212 connection, containing:

* Current positions with prices and quantities
* Full order history (buys and sells)
* Dividends
* Cash transactions (deposits, withdrawals, interest, interest on free cash, fees)

## Setting up Trading 212

### Step 1: Generate a Trading 212 API key

1. Open the Trading 212 web app or mobile app.
2. Go to **Settings → API**.
3. Generate a new API key. Trading 212 shows you an **API ID** and a **Secret Key**.
4. Copy both values — the Secret Key is only shown once.

### Step 2: Add the connection in Sure

1. In Sure, go to **Settings → Providers**.
2. Find the **Trading 212** section and expand it.
3. Paste your **API ID** and **Secret Key** into the corresponding fields.
4. Select your **environment** (Live account or Demo account).
5. Select your **account currency**.
6. Click **Save Configuration**.

Sure begins syncing your Trading 212 account automatically after saving.

### Step 3: Set up your account

After the first sync, your Trading 212 account appears in the setup queue. Click **Set up accounts** in the Trading 212 panel to link the discovered account to a Sure account.

If you already have a manual investment account in Sure, you can link the discovered Trading 212 account to it instead of creating a new one.

## Environments

Trading 212 offers two environments:

| Environment | Description |
| ------------ | --------------------------------------------------- |
| Live account | Your real Trading 212 investment account |
| Demo account | The Trading 212 practice account with virtual funds |

Select the environment that matches the API key you generated.

## Syncing

Sure syncs your Trading 212 account on the same schedule as other connected providers. You can also trigger a manual sync by clicking **Sync** in the Trading 212 panel under **Settings → Providers**.

## Troubleshooting

### API key needs attention

Your API key may have been revoked or the credentials may no longer be valid. Generate a new API key from Trading 212 and update the connection in **Settings → Providers → Trading 212**.

### No account discovered yet

After saving your API key, Sure needs to run an initial sync to discover your account. Click **Sync** from the Trading 212 panel and wait for it to complete, then click **Set up accounts**.

### Account needs setup

A sync discovered your Trading 212 account, but it has not been linked to a Sure account yet. Click **Set up accounts** from the Trading 212 panel and complete the account setup.

## Cash transaction types

Sure maps Trading 212 cash transaction types to the following labels:

| Trading 212 type | Sure label |
| --------------------- | ------------ |
| Deposit | Contribution |
| Withdrawal | Withdrawal |
| Interest | Interest |
| Interest on free cash | Interest |
| Fee | Fee |

## Limitations

* **Single connection per family**: Sure supports one Trading 212 connection per family account.
* **Investment accounts only**: Trading 212 is an investment platform. Sure imports your portfolio and associated cash movements — it is not a general banking connection.
* **Read-only access**: Sure uses only read permissions. No trades or account changes can be made through Sure.
